A standard cleaning of a 4-bedroom house in the GTA takes about 5.5 to 8 hours. A deep clean takes 8 to 11 hours. A move-in or move-out clean takes 9 to 13 hours. With two cleaners on site, a standard clean takes 3 to 4 hours, while three cleaners can finish it in 2 to 3 hours.

Whether you are planning a weekend cleaning session, hiring cleaning professionals for the first time, or cleaning a condo. This guide gives you realistic time estimates and room-by-room breakdowns. The GTA-specific context here is not in generic cleaning articles.

A 4-bedroom house cleaning job depends on the size, the extra bathrooms, the stairs, and the lived-in clutter, all of which add up.  We will give you real labour-hour ranges, room-by-room times, and the hidden factors that push a clean from 5 hours to 13. By the end, you will know exactly what to budget – whether you do it yourself or hire help.

Time Estimates by Cleaning Type

Not all cleaning is the same. The depth of the job matters as much as the size of the home.

Service Type Labour Hours Clock Time (2 cleaners)
Standard / Recurring Clean 5.5 – 8 hours 3 – 4 hours
Deep Clean (first-time or seasonal) 8 – 11 hours 4 – 5.5 hours
Move-In / Move-Out Clean 9 – 13 hours 4.5 – 6.5 hours
Post-Renovation Clean 11 – 16+ hours 5.5 – 8 hours

What Each Cleaning Service Covers: Book Based on Your Needs

Most homeowners do not realize the gap between a standard clean and a deep clean. They book what they think is a deep clean, only to end up with surface dusting. Knowing the difference helps you book the right service.

  • Standard Maintenance Clean covers routine dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and wiping down high-touch surfaces in kitchens and bathrooms. It assumes the home has been cleaned within the past two to four weeks.
  • Deep Clean adds baseboards, ceiling fans, grout lines, interior windows, inside appliances, and areas typically skipped during maintenance cleans. Ideal for seasonal resets or first-time professional cleanings.

Want the full method? Read our difference between deep cleaning and standard cleaning guide.

  • Move-In/Move-Out Clean is the most thorough scope. It targets an empty property: every cabinet interior, appliance, closet shelf, and corner. The standard is set by the landlord or property management requirements.

If you are moving, the move-out cleaning checklist walks you through every step. For new homes, our move-in cleaning guide covers what to clean before you unpack.

  • Post-Renovation Clean deals with construction dust, paint residue, and debris. It consistently takes the longest because fine particulates settle everywhere, requiring multiple passes.

More on this in our post-construction cleaning guide.

Room-by-Room Time Breakdown

Understanding where the time goes helps you plan better. Use this to spot-check any quote you receive.

Room Standard Clean Deep Clean
Kitchen 45 – 60 min 75 – 90 min
Master Ensuite 45 – 60 min 70 – 90 min
Full Bathroom 35 – 45 min 55 – 70 min
Powder Room 15 – 20 min 25 – 30 min
Master Bedroom 12 – 18 min 20 – 30 min
Secondary Bedroom 8 – 12 min 15 – 20 min
Living Room 15 – 20 min 25 – 35 min
Dining Room 10 – 15 min 15 – 25 min
Stairs, Hallway, Entryway 15 – 25 min 25 – 40 min
Finished Basement 30 – 45 min 50 – 70 min

Kitchen: The longest room

The kitchen takes the most time because of grease, appliances, and detailed surface work. Add 10 to 15 minutes for stainless steel appliances that need streak-free polishing. Add another 10 minutes for a gas range with removable grates. Kitchen islands add 5 to 10 minutes. For our full kitchen method, see how we clean a kitchen.

Master Ensuite – The second-longest room

Master en-suites in homes usually have separate showers and tubs. Glass shower doors add 10 to 15 minutes. Marble surfaces add an additional 10 minutes because they require special care. A jetted tub adds 15-20 minutes.

Full Bathrooms – The family bathroom and guest bath

A typical home has one or two full bathrooms beyond the ensuite. Each one takes 35 to 45 minutes for a standard clean. Glass doors and multiple sinks push that higher.

Powder Room

Powder rooms are quick – 15 to 20 minutes for a standard clean. But they sit on the main floor and see the most traffic, so they need frequent attention.

The 4 Bedrooms – Master plus three secondary

Bedrooms are quicker than bathrooms, but they add up. The master takes 12 to 18 minutes. Each secondary bedroom takes 8 to 12 minutes. Total bedroom time for a 4-bedroom home: about 35 to 55 minutes. Under-bed clutter and area rugs add 5-10 minutes per room.

Simple bedroom cleaning tips can cut your prep time, too.

Living and Dining Areas

Living rooms take 15 to 20 minutes for a standard clean. Add 5 to 10 minutes per ceiling fan. Bookshelves take 2 to 3 minutes per shelf for proper dusting. Window blinds add 3 to 5 minutes per window. Dining rooms are simpler – 10 to 15 minutes without china cabinet.

Stairs, Hallway, and Entryway

Stairs are slow work because of safety and reach. Each flight adds 15 to 20 minutes. Toronto winters make the entryway harder – salt and slush mean floors take 20 percent longer from November through March.

Finished Basement

A finished basement in a home adds 30 to 45 minutes to a standard clean. More if it has a bathroom, a gym, or a wet bar.

Quick math: Add it up for a typical 4-bedroom semi-detached home with one master ensuite, one full bath, and a powder room. You land at about 6.5 labour hours for a standard clean. That matches what we see on the ground.

9 Factors That Affect Your Cleaning Time

Two homes of the same size can take very different amounts of time. Here are the factors that shift the clock.

1. Number of bathrooms

Bathrooms are the slowest rooms per square foot. A 4-bedroom home with three bathrooms takes about 40 minutes longer than the same home with two bathrooms.

2. Square footage

A 1,600 square foot 4-bedroom is faster than a 2,400 square foot one – even though both are “4 bedrooms.” Bigger homes mean more floors to mop and more surfaces to dust.

3. Pets

One dog or cat adds 20 to 30 minutes for extra vacuuming and surface wiping. Two pets push it to 45 minutes or more.

4. Clutter level

Cleaners are not organizers. If counters, floors, and surfaces are covered in items, the team spends time moving things. Light tidying before they arrive saves 30 to 45 minutes.

Our guide on how to prepare your home for cleaners walks through what to do in 15 minutes.

5. Stairs and multiple floors

Two flights of stairs add 30-40 minutes. The team has to carry equipment up and down.

6. Finished basement or attic

A finished basement adds 30 to 45 minutes. A finished attic adds 20 to 30 minutes, more if there are bathrooms.

7. Season

A Toronto winter means salt and slush tracked through entryways, and floors take 20 percent longer to dry. Spring adds pollen to window sills. Summer humidity makes glass harder to clean streak-free, which adds an extra 20-30 minutes.

8. Home age and finish

Pre-1950 homes with detailed trim, radiators, and original woodwork take 25 to 35 percent longer. New construction is faster but often comes with strict service-elevator booking windows in condo conversions.

9. Layout – detached, semi, or townhouse

Detached homes spread out across more space but usually have wider rooms. Semi-detached homes are narrower with more vertical movement. Townhouses often have three floors with steep, narrow stairs that take 15 to 20 percent longer.

What Does a 4 Bedroom Clean Costs in the GTA

Time and price go hand in hand. Here are market benchmarks for the GTA so you know what is reasonable.

Service GTA Market Range Typical Duration
Standard / Recurring $220 – $360 3 – 4 hrs (2 cleaners)
Deep Clean $500 – $750+ 4 – 5.5 hrs (2 cleaners)
Move-In / Move-Out $600 – $1,000 4.5 – 6.5 hrs (2 – 3 cleaners)
Post-Renovation $750 – $1,200+ 5.5 – 8 hrs (3 cleaners)

Most GTA cleaning companies charge $40 to $75 per hour per cleaner. For a two-person team, that is $80 to $150 per hour on site. Flat-rate pricing is more predictable than hourly. One-person operations tend to charge hourly. Larger companies usually quote flat rates.

Smart Ways to Cut Your Cleaning Time

A few small habits cut cleaning time without cutting quality.

  1. Tidy for 15 minutes before the team arrives. Clear counters, floors, and bathroom vanities.
  2. Secure pets in one room. The cleaners can finish that room first, then move on.
  3. Tell the company about any problem areas up front. A heavy oven or pet stain mentioned in advance saves 20 minutes.
  4. Book a recurring schedule. Bi-weekly cleans take 30 to 40 percent less time than first-time cleans.
  5. Confirm the team size before the day. Two cleaners on a 4-bedroom home is the minimum.
  6. Keep cleaning supplies in one easy spot if the cleaners use your products. Hunting for supplies costs 10 to 15 minutes.
  7. Schedule cleans mid-week if possible. Weekend bookings often run later because of traffic and appointments.
